In January of this year, the Witness to Faith Ministry Team challenged the whole congregation of First Baptist Church to Serve 2015! We encouraged FBC members to serve our community by partnering with the organizations who are already doing great work here in Indianapolis. We set a goal that our members would serve at least 2015 hours in the year 2015.
As a congregation, FBC responded to that challenge! Our members pledged to serve over 3000 hours, and as of today, 1171 hours have already been served. Less than halfway through the year, we are over halfway to our goal!
So, first off, we want to say “thank you.” Thank you to all of our members who have responded to this challenge. Thank you for looking for places to serve and giving of your time and energy and talent in service to others. Thank you for coming, week after week, to record your hours on Serve 2015 cards and placing them in the offering plate or in the box in the atrium. We truly believe that your acts of service make a difference.
We also want to encourage all of you to keep on serving! The year isn’t even half over, and we can do a lot between now and December. Maybe you haven’t yet had a chance to get involved or haven’t yet found a place to serve, but there’s no better time to start than now.
So over the next few months, you’ll be hearing more from us about the organizations who need our help and the work they are already doing. You’ll find out about opportunities for everyone to serve, either as a group or by yourself (like the Superhero Run for CASA of Marion County!). You’ll hear stories of other FBC members who have found a place to serve.
The Witness to Faith team would love to help you find a place to be involved. You can usually find them near the Serve 2015 table in the FBC Atrium on Sunday mornings, and they will be happy to answer your questions.
Be sure to keep your eyes and ears open over the next few months for more updates on Serve 2015, in worship and on our website. We truly believe that service is one of the most important ways we can witness to our faith. We thank God for the time and energy you have already given to this project, and look forward to the rest of 2015!
